The car was named after a city in New Mexico. In 2001, this model was the first Hyundai crossover launched at the same time as the Ford Escape / Mazda Tribute and Pontiac Aztek. Santa Fe was the backbone of the company's restructuring program in the late 1990s. And, despite receiving criticism from journalists for its slurred appearance, the car was a success in America. The crossover was so popular that at times Hyundai couldn't keep up with the demand. Since 2007, the Santa Fe has been intermediate between the Hyundai Tucson compact SUV and its associated luxury crossover, the Hyundai Veracruz (which was preceded by the Hyundai Terracan). With the release of the last generation, it has grown significantly in size, replacing the Hyundai Santa Fe Grand. In the hierarchy of crossovers, Hyundai ranks second after the largest full-size crossover Hyundai Palisade, being the company's sub-flagship. Drive type: Full.
