Mod 1993 Porsche 968 Turbo S for Car Mechanic Simulator 2018
Porsche 968 is a sports car produced by the German concern Porsche from 1991 to 1995. This car is the last member of the family, which began in 1976 with the release of the Porsche 924 model and continued in 1982 - 1991, the Porsche 944. With its predecessor, the 944 model, the Porsche 968 had about 20% of the common parts, some of which were also compatible with Porsche 924.
History of creation
The predecessor of the 968th model, the Porsche 944, debuted in the 1982 model year, and was updated in 1987 (received index S), and 1989 (index S2). Shortly after the start of production of the 944 S2, Porsche engineers began work on the 944 S3 project. In the process of working on the S3 modification, about 80% of the parts and assemblies of the original 944th were significantly reworked or replaced; Thus, the question arose of the release of a new model, since the machine already had quite a bit in common with its predecessor. As a result, the Porsche management decided to present the S3 modification as a new model that received a factory index of 968. In addition to new and changed components, the model also underwent a change in appearance - the design became sportier, more streamlined and modern; More luxury items began to be offered in the database. Production of the model was transferred from Audi factories in Neckarsulm (the traditional assembly place for the 924th and 944th models, under a contract with Porsche) to Porsche's own factory in Stuttgart, Zuffenhausen district.
In the 968th model, a modified in-line 4-cylinder engine from the Porsche 944 S2 was used. With a constant volume, engine power was increased to 236 liters. with. (177kV) due to the VarioCam system, which allows you to dynamically change the gas distribution phases - camshafts, which provide more economical torque in the lower frequency range without loss of power. Subsequently, the VarioCam system began to be used in the Type-996 6-cylinder boxer engines for 911 (996). Other innovations and improvements in the transmission include: redesigned ignition and exhaust systems, a dual-mass flywheel, and upgraded engine electronics. The new six-speed manual transmission replaces the 5-speed manual transmission from the 944th model; added Tiptronic installation option.
Design and interior
Appearance 968 completed the evolution of the design of 924 and 944 models, but some elements, in an attempt to create a "family resemblance" between the models, were also borrowed from the Porsche 928, a higher-level model. The front of the car resembled the 944 model, however, the striking difference was the modified “rising” headlights, the design of which resembled the Porsche 928. Along with the new appearance, the Porsche 968 received a new antenna, taillights with integral lenses and alloy 16-inch wheels “Cup” new design; rear passenger windows began to be glued. Users were offered new combinations of body colors and interiors.
In total, in addition to the base, 3 modifications were released:
Porsche 968 Club Sport;
Porsche 968 Turbo S
This modification differed from the standard only in the presence of a turbocharged engine. Only 13 cars were sold in the series, sold exclusively on the European Porsche market. By speed characteristics - acceleration to 100 km / h in 4.7 s .; maximum speed of about 280 km / h - this model can compete with a much more modern modification of the flagship Porsche - model 911 Type 996, produced in 1998-2005
