In 1968, the Chevelle gets a new body with front "conical" wings, more streamlined shapes and an increased profile. The manual transmission was awarded the Air Injection Reactor (A.I.R) system from GM, which increased the complexity of the repair. In 1970, another body change gave the new cars a more “square” form. The interior has also undergone changes. Sport Coupe, Sport Sedan, convertibles, and a four-door sedan were available along with the updated Super Sport. The latter is now limited to a 2-door Sport Coupe Malibu and a convertible. Later this year, the base model became the revival of the 300 Deluxe and was only available as a Sport Coupe and sedan. New options included automatic locks and a new wiper. Engine selection ranged between the standard 6-cylinder capacity of 155 liters. with. (166 kW) and V8 volume of 307 cu. inches (5031 cm ³) and a capacity of 200 liters. with., as well as 350 cu. inches (5735 cm³) and 402 cu. in. (6588 cm³). The result was the SS454 model, which was equipped with large engines.

The SS 396 Chevelle had a 350-liter Turbo-Jet 396 V8 engine. with. (260 kW), special suspension, power dome hood, black grille, new bumpers and sports wheels. A 375-liter engine was also available. with. (280 kW), but very few of these machines were sold, as the more powerful model SS454 was proposed, which had a V8 — 454 cc engine. inches (7,439 cm³) with a capacity of 360 liters. with.
