County Commercial Cars was founded in 1929 by converting Ford trucks from a 2x4 drive to a 4x6 drive. In 1948, County began converting tractors to tracked versions. Production of four-wheel drive units with equal wheels began in 1961.
County tractors soon gained a reputation for their unparalleled traction and stability, and many farmers bought them specifically for working on the slopes. In 1977, the County 1184 model was introduced based on the rear end of the Ford 7600 and the 112 hp (84 kW) Ford 8700 engine.
